![]() Well, it ultimately became quite a disaster for Simon, much to his dismay. In the past, his hair was kept so short that he could hardly tell how it would look like when grown out. Yet, six months on, Simon gradually opened up and felt inclined towards the notion of getting a haircut once again. It was difficult for him to entrust another person with his hair again, with memories of his hair being sheared extremely short still coming to mind every time the thought of cutting his hair arose. He would reject the notion of a haircut as suggested by his parents whenever they had a chance, but he bought none of it, uncomfortable to reinvest any sort of faith in a barber or hairdresser again. Growing his hair out since then, Simon had initially felt excited like never before. He finally had a chance to grow his hair out following graduation from high school. As he approached the epitome of his teenage years, the control of his parents finally buckled. Particularly, he possessed an inherently strong character, and the controlling parents of his made him ever more rebellious, as he desperately craved more freedom. Merely a young adolescent back then, Simon found it hard to protest against the harshness of his parents’ treatment of him and his sister. This ensued for many years, until their mother finally wavered when she was enrolled into middle school – she was then allowed to keep her hair in a neat, bob style, but it could not be kept longer than chin length at all times. Most of the time however, the final result would resemble a classic short haircut with the sides and back trimmed close to the skin with hair clippers, and the top left with more length. On the rare occasion with a bit of luck, it would instead be a slightly longer version of the wedge haircut, as if it is any consolation. Whenever their mother got her hair done at the hair salon she frequented, she would bring Simon’s sister along, who would leave the house with long silky hair that grazed her shoulders, and return with short, cropped hair. While she certainly did not have to experience exactly what Simon had with the extremely short haircuts, she too, was subjected to tough regimentation in the hands of their mother. Simon has a younger sister, born just a year after him, and she was not spared from such severe treatment either. ![]() Yet, such strict treatment was not exclusive to him, if it even makes him feel any better about it. ![]() Sombre as they are, these are memories that Simon can still recall clearly. The dad would make sure that his son gets his haircut too, a high and tight haircut if he’s lucky, or perfectly shaven down to a #1 otherwise. His father would bring him along to the barber down by the nearby strip mall every fortnight, where he would usually get a flat top, or even ask for a #2 buzz cut. The men would always get their hair shorn short, and certainly quite severely. Simon was always subjected to strict regimentation and control by his parents, with his childhood described as one of little fuss, if there was a childhood at all. They met when Simon’s father was injured on duty a long time ago, and when love blossomed, they eventually got married about a year later from their first meeting. The commanding officer of the local Marine Corps that was just based in the suburban side of town, Simon’s father met his mother a couple of decades ago, when the latter was still serving as a nurse in a nearby medical centre. The authoritarian nature of his family which he had experienced was perhaps, unsurprisingly borne off his father. Every other moment, Simon would gaze into his reflections from the windows of the shop houses that laid along the streets, staring prolongedly towards his reflections with every opportunity.īorn and raised in an authoritative family, Simon was brought up in a background entrenched in military traditions, with little tolerance for even the slightest of nuisance. ![]() Yet here he was, accompanied by the cool breeze and the infrequent passing of strangers, mostly going about with their own lives. His home was situated not too far away, probably just a couple of blocks away, or less. It was quiet and serene all around the street where he lingered. ![]() We hope our viewers will enjoy it.Įver felt like you were in a quandary?
